A 17TH CENTURY ENGLISH CLOSE HELMET OF TOTENKOPF OR SAVOYARD FORM

the two-piece riveted siege-weight skull, with roped decoration to the seam, single incised border line, the pivoting peak with turned edge and struck with a winged skull form maker's mark, the pivoting face defence secured by a hook and eye to the right side, the collar with turned roped edge, traces of original blacked finish to the inside of the collar. Circa 1640. See European Armour in the Tower of London, plate CVII for a similar example.
