84cm double fullered blade incised to both sides in both fullers ANDREA FERARA, characteristic copper gilt hilt with pierced wheel form lower guard, D-shaped knuckle bow with triple S-bar supports, spirally fluted bun-shaped pommel, the whole retaining most of its original gilt finish, copper tape bound fishskin grip, contained in its copper gilt mounted leather scabbard incised with geometric designs, the upper mount engraved with the owner's name P.H. Goldsworthy. See British Basket Hilted Swords by Cyril Mazansky p.207 for a similar sword in the Royal Collection at Windsor. Lieutenant General Philip Goldsworthy became a lieutenant in the First Royal Dragoons on the 29th March 1760, Captain 18th November 1768, Colonel 20th October 1784, Major General 20th December 1793 and Lieutenant General 26th June 1799. The First Royal Dragoons fought at the Battle of Warburg in July 1760 at which it is possible that Goldsworthy carried this sword.
