AN ENGLISH CIVIL WAR PERIOD OFFICER'S RAPIER

97cm flattened diamond section four-stage blade, fullered virtually to the tip, the forte inlaid in copper PETER MUNSTEN ME FECIT SOLINGEN and dated ANNO 1616, characteristic chiselled and pierced hilt, the guard decorated with sea serpents and bearded faces, recurved crossguard, D-shaped knuckle bow with two scroll supports, foliate chiselled pommel, copper wire bound fluted grip with turks' heads. Peter Munsten the Elder operated circa 1591-1627. Hilt has been apart to brightly polish the blade.
