AN 18TH CENTURY ENGLISH INFANTRYMAN'S SWORD

88.5cm flattened diamond section blade incised in the short central fuller on either side FOR THE TOWER and with an incised running wolf or fox, characteristic hilt of proto-mortuary type with half basket formed from an upturned side guard with chiselled linear decoration, the principle guard tapering to form the knuckle bow, and the secondary guard tapering also to sit beneath the disc-shaped pommel, cylindrical wooden grip, contained in its very rare iron bound wooden scabbard.
