A FINE 19TH CENTURY INDIAN KHANDA OR SWORD

83.5cm double edged blade with short central fuller, geometrically pierced reinforcing straps to either side, finished in gilt and with scrolling terminals, the forte with trefoil terminating reinforcing straps, characteristic hilt of wootz damascus steel, upturned guard, broad knuckle bow, deep dished disc pommel with domed top and long tapering faceted spike, the whole with scroll and geometric borders in gilt, the hilt and slender waisted grip retaining good amounts of original textile lining, contained in its bullion trimmed blue cloth wrapped wooden scabbard with shaped plain brass chape.
