A GOLD LACQUERED JAPANESE ARMOUR

comprising a twenty four plate russet iron hoshi-bachi kabuto overlaid with bronze shinodare, five stage tehan kanemono, downturned mabizashi covered with printed leather and mounted with a gilded kuwagata-dai pierced with foliage applied with a fine lacquered gilt wooden maedate in the form of a scaly dragon with flames at its fore and rear quarters, and supporting brass kuwagata, four lame kebiki laced kozane shikiro with large fukigayeshi covered in printed leather and applied with stylized gilt flower heads, black lacquered iron nodowa with two lame kebiki laced kozane do-maru fitted with gyoyo faced with printed leather and applied with gilt stylized flower heads, five lame kebiki laced kozane kusazuri, kebikie laced o-sode with gilt fittings pierced and applied with chrysanthemum kanemono, yoshitsuna kote with gilt fittings, haidate of gold lacquered kebiki laced kozane and gold lacquered shino-sunate, contained in a black lacquered wood box with iron carrying handles and decorated with gilt mon, the lid replaced, the maedate contoured in a wooden box inscribed Kin fundame ryn on maedate and complete with wood stand. Late Edo, some wear consistent with age.
