95cm fullered blade by Pillin, etched with scrolling foliage, laurel wreath, regimental title, battle honours and owner's initials, RJB (?), regulation pierced steel hilt with applied brass crowned regimental cypher, wire bound fishskin grip, in its brass mounted steel scabbard, together with a World Wide Arms copy of the same sword. (2) Research papers included suggest this is the sword of Rowland John Beech - 2nd Lt 16th Lancers 1875, 2nd Life Guards Lieutenant May 1878, served in Sudan with the Heavy Camel Regiment (There really was such a thing!!) from 1884. Wounded at Abu Klea Jan 1885 while serving with the HCR, evacuated to England then retired in 1886. RJB then became a Captain in the Warwickshire Yeomanry and ended up as Lt. Col of same regiment. There is a rather dashing copy photograph of him in full dress included.
